Российско-Шведский Морской Форум 2013

On the 30th-31st of May, 2013, the Trade Representation of the Russian Federation in Sweden held the Russian-Swedish Marine Forum (further referred to as Forum) aimed at supporting state policy in the field of modernization and technological development of Russian economy.
The idea of holding the Forum is rooted into mutual interest from Swedish export-oriented high-tech shipbuilding companies, on the one hand, and Russian scientific and design centers specializing in producing modern light high-speed boats, on the other.
The event was organized by the Trade Representation of the Russian Federation in cooperation with OCP Group AB, a Swedish company.

The main goals of the Forum were the following:

  • Assistance in providing Russian “force” agencies and rescue services with modern light high-speed boats exploited for different purposes, as well as getting an impression of Swedish shipbuilding technologies, special electronic and board equipment;
  • Receiving expert assessment of performance characteristics and operative qualities of Swedish high-speed boats and special purposes jet-skis, board, diving and rescue equipment from representatives of Russian agencies;
  • Establishment of direct contacts between Russian and Swedish producers, exchange of experience in the field of exploitation of high-speed boats in harsh climate conditions of the Baltic sea;
  • Search for economic and technological preconditions for Russian-Swedish cooperation in the field of producing high-tech goods, bearing in mind further shifting of production facilities to Russia;
  • Enhancement of competitiveness of Russian companies, promotion of export of Russian high-tech navigation, underwater hydro location and other types of board products to the Swedish and Scandinavian markets.
     

The program of the Forum consisted of two parts:
Theoretical part (was held on the 30th of June, 2013, at the conference hall of the Trade Representation) included official inauguration of the Forum, exhibition of equipment samples, presentations by Swedish and Russian participants, round tables and section work. Special diving and underwater communication equipment produced by Interspiro AB, a modern boat by Dahl Naval and a rescue jet-ski by Safe at Sea company were represented at the exhibition.

Practical part (May 31st 2013, the straits of Saltsjö, Lidingö and Kobben islands) included the showing of modern low-sized small-displacement vessels and water scooters for special purposes under natural conditions, demonstration of boarding and rescue equipment application, navigation skills training, debates about training programs for field and service engineers. The tests of board and alpinist equipment, underwater outfit, nine high-speed small-displacement vessels, search and rescue scooter and delivery vehicles for special forces were performed.

Among Russian participants were the representatives of special forces (Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Federal Guard Service), EMERCOM, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economic Development, core Russian military-industrial enterprises (OJSC Vympel Shipyards, OJSC CMKB Almaz, OJSC Central Design Department Neptun, CJSC Sfera, LLC Scientific Center of Applied Electrodynamics, OJSC CMKB named after Krylov, Tetis Group, OJSC Kostroma Shipyard – KSMZ, Tavrichesky bank, LLC Agat Design Bureau, LLC Mnev, OJSC Rybinsk shipyard, LLC VIP Renaissance, LLC Trade Marine), representatives of regional authorities.

Among Swedish participants were the representatives of Swedish Coast Guard, Search and Rescue service, experts from core Swedish companies (Volvo Penta AB, OCP Group AB, Marine Diesel AB, Buffers Marine AB, SEA Cross AB, Dahl Naval AB, Docksta Varvet AB, Rupetech Professional Boats AB, Stockholm RIB Centre AB, Spectre Marine AB, Safe at Sea AB, Ulman Dynamics AB) and Norwegian company Henriksen.
Total amount of visitors – both Russian and Scandinavian experts – exceeded ninety. More than 20 presentations were arranged by participants.

The following key issues were discussed during Forum:

  • cooperation of companies with core ministries and departments,
  • mutual recognition of advanced technologies as a result of practical tests and demonstrations,
  • crew safety issues,
  • product commercialization as a mover of technological progress,
  • accreditation, certification, approval and licensing of Swedish companies and products in Russia.

The Forum will be held regularly and is supposed to become a major Russian-Swedish event for shipbuilding industry where scientists, technical experts, government agencies and business circles can get familiar with last achievements of Swedish and Russian shipbuilding, discuss topical issues of the industry.

The next Forum is scheduled to be held in 2015.

Udmurtia – Region of Development

Socio-economic development of Udmurtia is determined by:

  • developed industrial potential of highly skilled personnel in enterprises and research institutes;
  • favorable transport and geographical location of the republic in the centre of the Ural region;
  • solid base of natural resources and raw material;
  • favorable demographic situation that fully meets the needs of economy in human resources.
  • Developed market infrastructure, stable technology market, and a high research and technical potential create favorable and comfortable conditions for foreign investors. Growing output in machine building, oil and gas industries, along with the developed communication system, including roads, railways, and skyways, the stable banking system, and social stability provide good opportunities for the development of medium-sized and large businesses in the republic.

The Udmurt Republic has a range of benefits, which all together determine its high potential for manufacturing of export-oriented products.

Environment and Climate

The republic is located in the western part of the Middle Ural, between the Kama and the Vyatka rivers. It spans the territory of 180 km from west to east and 270 km from north to south. The Udmurt Republic is situated in the moderate continental climate zone, with hot summers and cold winters with a lot of snow.

Natural Resources

The most important natural resources include wood and oil. There are 114 effective oil deposits on the territory of the republic. 96 % of produced oil is exported. About 7-8 million tons are extracted annually.

Forests cover 46 % of the territory, with half of them being coniferous. Allowable final cut is 2.3 million cu. m. The republic has peat reserves, nitrogen-methane deposits and construction materials, such as quartz sand, clay, and limestone. It is rich in mineral resources and therapeutic mud as well.

Geographic Location

The distance between Izhevsk, the capital of the Udmurt Republic, and Moscow, the capital of the Russian Federation, is 1,129 km, Saint Petersburg – 1,904 km, Yekaterinburg – 800 km, Kazan – 395 km. The Udmurt Republic borders on Kirov Oblast to the west and north, Perm Krai to the east, and Bashkortorstan and Tatarstan to the south.

Automobile Transport

The Udmurt Republic is crossed by several federal roads, such as Р242, Р320, Р321, Р322.

Air Transport

Izhevsk Airport

The only republic’s airport is situated in the city of Izhevsk. Air transfers are operated by OAO Izhavia that makes regular cargo and passenger flights. The destination network of OAO Izhavia includes 15 scheduled flights (including seasonal flights) and 12 charter flights (mainly for gas and oil workers). The network has a total length of skyways of about 20,000 km. OAO Izhavia has licenses to operate regular passenger and cargo flights on 14 airways.

Railway Transport

Rail transport is the largest interregional carrier of passengers and cargo in the Udmurt Republic. It is the most economical way of cargo shipment from different regions of Russia or to a shipping place in a port. Railways cross the Udmurt Republic in east-west and north-south directions. The main transit routes are double-track electrified lines:

Kazan – Agryz – Yekaterinburg (Southern Route) served by the Izhevsk department of the Gorky Railway which is a subsidiary of the Russian Railways;

Kazan – Balezino – Perm (Northern Route) served by the Kirov department of the Gorky Railway which is a subsidiary of the Russian Railways.

Internal ship transport of the Udmurt Republic is represented by two enterprises:

OAO Sarapul River Port

Sarapul River Port is located in the town of Sarapul on the right bank of the Kama River. The port operates on the stretch of the Kama River from the village of Olkhovka (inclusive) to the town of Nepryakha (exclusive). The guaranteed depths for this stretch are 330 cm. For lift-on/lift-off, the port can take ships with a carrying capacity of up to 5,000 tons. The port is situated on the international railway West-East, the inside port railways link up with Sarapul railway station. There are also cargo ships that work in the Volga-Kama basin.

OAO Kambarka Port

The deep water river port Kambarka is situated on the left bank of the Kama River in the village of Kama. The port Kambarka operates within the Kama’s basin from the town of Nepryakha (inclusive) to the town of Krasny Bor (exclusive). The depths down the river from the port are not controlled during the whole period of navigation (380 cm and more), the depths up the river from the port are controlled to be 310 cm. For lift-on/lift-off, the port can take the ships with a carrying capacity of up to 5,000 tons. The port is located at the international railway West-East, the inside port railways link up with Kama railway station. The port can admit and handle river-marine vessels. Cargo transportation lines served by OAO Kambarka Port are Kambarka – customers’ docks on the Kama River.

Manufacturing

The Udmurt Republic is a republic with developed manufacturing and diversified agriculture. The republic also has the highest rate of defense industry enterprises in Russia.

The main industries include machine building, metalworking, ferrous metallurgy, and wood?working industry. The power industry is represented by a complex of thermal power stations in Izhevsk, Sarapul, Votkinsk, and Glazov, the biggest of which is CHPP-2. Metallurgical production is concentrated in Izhevsk, and foundry is located mainly in Izhevsk and Votkinsk. Production of cars and motor vans, papermaking machines, motorcycles, bearings (shutdown), oil field equipment, hunting weapon and sport guns, chemical equipment should also be mentioned. Forest logging is held in the northern and western parts of the republic; wood is used for producing of timber, furniture, and house-building constructions. A significant part of enterprises in the republic is connected with the military-industrial complex of Russia.

OAO Izhmash, formerly known as Izhevsk Weapons Plant, is the largest manufacturer of small arms in Russia founded in 1807 at the decree of Tsar Alexander I.

Agriculture

Cultivated lands make up nearly 50% of the territory of the republic. Cattle and swine prevail in livestock; there is also sheep and poultry breeding. Among the cultivated crops are rye, wheat, buckwheat, barley, oats, millet, peas, corn, sunflower, flax, rape, potatoes, vegetables, and forage crops.
