Russia submitted a letter of candidature to the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) to organise World Expo 2025 in Yekaterinburg

Russia’s bid is for a World Expo in the city of Ekaterinburg between 2 May and 2 November 2025 under the theme “Changing the World: Innovations and Better Life for Future Generations”.
The theme, “Changing the world: innovations and better life for future generations”, expresses the global need for renewed and responsible reflection on our world and the challenges we face, by selecting people and innovation as drivers of transformation to improve quality of life.
It is a prism through which to interpret the conceptual triad – people, innovation and quality of life – and its roles, through interrogation and analysis. Three concepts that are as complex as they are vast and capable of being approached from an infinite number of perspectives.
Indeed, the theme is multi-faceted and encourages interdisciplinary self-exploration as a result of the impact it has on such varied spheres of life as the environment, sustainable development, tech innovations, education, work, health, social progress, the economy, security, wellbeing, leisure, sports and the arts.
Finally, it raises a discussion about what quality of life is, and how innovation can improve it from a variety of perspectives.
